Vulin, 36, was doused in methylated spirits and lit alight ten years ago in a horror attack by a jealous woman who wrongly accused her of sleeping with her husband.Aged just 25 at the time, Vulin suffered third-degree burns to more than 60 per cent of her body, and endured years of extensive surgeries and rehabilitation. But the burns survivor — who describes herself as a “glass half full” person — is dedicated to spreading the message that “life is for living”, making headlines for sharing her gruelling recovery journey in a 15-second clip that went viral last month.Explaining the powerful message behind the post on The Morning Show today, Vulin explained to hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur that it was all in the name of “owing her narrative”.“I always speak about taking back your own power and your own narrative,” the motivational speaker and author said, explaining that she felt especially compelled to do so after having to stay quiet about the attack during the legal proceedings.“I’m just so sick of other people taking my narrative … I’m not letting that happen any more.”Vulin, who shared snippets of her painful hospital visits followed by the incredible result of years of hard work while posing in a piece of red lingerie, said she wanted to “make this burn (her) bitch”.“When I did my reveal, I was like, ‘I’m gonna make this burn my bitch, and I’m gonna make scars sexy.’ And, whether no one else thinks scars are sexy, or that’s not attractive to them, I feel sexy, and I feel good,” the beacon of body positivity said.“I worked really hard to get to where I am, and to have that body, and, I mean, that is so raw,” she added.“It’s got, like, no filter, no editing, no fake tan, no fake lashes, no fake nails, no fake hair, no nothing. And it may not be for everyone, but it’s me, and, I’m proud of that. I worked so hard for that body … I worked hard to get that fit.”Elsewhere in the chat, Vulin laughed while explaining another social media post she made which stated: “I’m a glass-half-full kind of person. Because of my scars, I can’t get saggy. I can’t age.”“Well, what else are you gonna do? Like, ‘Boo-hoo, I’ve got scars’,” she said today.“I think now I am as unique on the outside as I am on the inside. But, yeah, look, I won’t age. I’ll keep it tight forever. I won’t get the bat wings, jowls … I essentially won’t even wrinkle, so when I’m 70, I’ll look, hopefully, cuter than I do now.”Asked about her plans for the future, Vulin said her main focus is to enjoy her happy life, adding that she would like to become a mum one day “whether that be purchasing sperm or with a man”.“We have one life. Life is for living. So many of us are alive, but we’re not living,” she said.Vulin’s attacker, Natalie Dimitrovska, was sentenced to 17 years behind bars in 2013, found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm after breaking in to Vulin’s Perth apartment in February 2012. Vulin detailed the attack in her 2017 book Worth Fighting For, recalling how it felt like “the whole world was on fire” when her face, arms, chest, shoulders and naked stomach went up in flames.“The flames spread to my head, my hair went up in seconds and when I reached up to wipe the burning chemicals off my face, my hands were already on fire,” she recalled.“The pain was excruciating but through my screaming I could hear Natalie making her escape through the sliding door.“She was laughing at me while I burnt alive. When I stood up the flames were getting worse and I could barely think through the pain.In the ten years since the attack, as well as releasing her book, Vulin has earned a master’s degree of science in nursing and is working as a cosmetic nurse to help improve the scars of others. She opened her clinic I am D aesthetics – which stands for “I am deserving” – in August last year, which offers cosmetic tattooing to cover scars.“I carry this with a badge of honour … I’m so grateful I’m alive. For me it’s such a responsibility for survivors,” she told the Daily Mail in March.
