Bush – who is currently spending her fourth week atop the ARIA charts with the single, a worldwide viral smash thanks to its appearance in the latest season of Stranger Things – got in touch with Brisbane-based group singing organisation Pub Choir after they posted a stirring rendition of her song online. Here’s what Kate had to say in an email Pub Choir shared on social media today:Dear Brisbane Pub Choir,I’ve been so busy that I’ve only just had the chance to watch you all singing RUTH. It’s utterly, utterly wonderful! I love it so much! Thank you everyone. You sing it really beautifully. I’m incredibly touched by your warmth and all your smiling faces. Thank you! With lots of love,Kate A spokesperson for Pub Choir confirmed to news.com.au that the email was definitely not a wind-up, and came to them via her publishing company, EMI.Check out their version of the year’s biggest surprise smash below:Bush has been unusually active following the unprecedented success of the song, which has also topped the charts in the UK and gave her the first US hit single of her career at the age of 63. Well, active by Kate Bush standards: She has not been seen in public since her incredible 2014 string of London concerts, but has posted on her website no less than seven times in recent weeks to keep fans updated on the global success of the lead single from her classic 1985 album Hounds of Love. Bush seems stunned by the ongoing success of the single, which has taken on a new life of its own after its memorable usage in key scenes of the Netflix hit Stranger Things. And fans eager for new material from Bush, who has not released a studio album since 2011, will no doubt be encouraged by her claim in the email that she had “been so busy.”But perhaps we should temper our expectations: When Bush phoned BBC radio for a rare interview last month to discuss the success of Running Up That Hill, she made no mention of new music and instead confessed she’d been spending time in recent years doing “lots of gardening.”
