Official recall details the battery issue with Pixel 4a

Google recently released a Battery Performance Program update for the Pixel 4a with some vague explanation of why the update was needed. The firmware drastically cut the battery life, which rendered the phone virtually unusable for however few people were still with it. Now Google is doing a recall in Australia, which sheds more light on the issue.

It turns out the update reduced the battery’s maximum voltage from 4.45V down to 3.95V, or in other words – a 56% drop in charging capacity. Perhaps this is why some users report that the Pixel 4a dies within minutes after being disconnected…
