Covid outbreak grows in Frankston aged care

The Leader understands at least nine of the active cases are residents at the Forest Drive centre in the heart of The Pines.The Forest Drive centre is one of 11 homes under the TLC Healthcare banner.In September TLC introduced a rapid antigen testing program at their residential aged care Centres across Melbourne and Geelong. A statement on the TLC website claimed it was Australia’s first aged care provider to mandate rapid antigen tests for every visitor, staff member and contractor that entered a TLC home. According to the website the test used was 95 per cent effective and approved by the TGA in Australia and the FDA in the United States.In October TLC chief executive Lou Pascuzzi said the program had already proven effective. “In the four weeks since mandating our rapid antigen testing program, two people have returned positive tests,” he said.Mr Pascuzzi said TLC’s Covid management strategy involved rapid antigen testing, vaccination, and infection-control protocols. “Our approach to date has allowed TLC homes to welcome visitors for much of the pandemic; when it was safe to do so,” he said. It has also allowed TLC to minimise lockdowns, promoting increased levels of safe access for family members to residents and a positive mental health influence on our residents and staff.”TLC has been contacted.There are 420 active cases in the Frankston LGA after nine new cases were added to the tally on Monday.Frankston North has 46 active cases.At least 92.8 per cent of Frankston locals have had one vaccination while 87.3 per cent are double vaxed.lucy.callander@news.com.au
