Despite NSW reaching a full vaccination rate of more than 90 per cent many rules remain in place depending on where you’re heading. Here’s the latest on all the interstate restrictions around Australia as well as New Zealand hopefuls.NSWBorder: Fully open | Masks: Compulsory indoors | Quarantine: Not requiredIf you’re planning a holiday close to home or a domestic odyssey, you’re in luck – travel across NSW is completely unrestricted, provided you’re fully vaccinated. Now that NSW has surpassed the 80 per cent double dose vaccination milestone, travellers who have got the jab can venture into regional NSW to their heart’s content. But there’s still a few rules to follow if you’re headed out and about. Masks still need to be worn in public areas like inside shops, and you’ll need to be able to show your vaccine passport to enter any non-essential venues like restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions, as well as check in everywhere using QR codes. And unvaccinated people can’t yet travel for recreation or holidays until December 15, when NSW is expected to hit 95 per cent double dose.ACTBorder: Fully open | Masks: Only for unvaccinated | Quarantine: 14 days for unvaccinatedNSW travellers keen to travel to Canberra can, after restrictions were eased last month. But there’s new travel rules as of November 12.Fully vaccinated tourists will have to fill in an exemption form within three days of their planned arrival, as NSW is still classified a high-risk geographical area, and must also watch for Covid symptoms for the 14 days leading up to travel. You won’t need to wear a mask once you arrive, but will have to follow capacity requirements and QR check-in protocol while out and about in the ACT.But for unvaccinated travellers, the criteria is much tougher. People who want to come to the ACT must quarantine at home for 14 days after arriving, and are only allowed to leave home for essential reasons like shopping, medical appointments and one hour of exercise once quarantine is completed.Unvaccinated travellers in Canberra aren’t allowed into non essential shops, hospitality venues or events, and must wear a mask at all times while outside the home if they are older than 12. VICTORIABorder: Fully open | Masks: Compulsory indoors | Quarantine: Not requiredVictoria has reopened its border to all of NSW, including to unvaccinated people who will not be required to get tested or isolate to enter the state.Unrestricted travel between the two states started on Monday November 1 for the fully vaccinated, before Victoria downgraded all of NSW and the ACT from orange zones to green under its permit system, allowing all travellers to enter the state regardless of their jab status. But everyone who enters Victoria must still apply for a permit and prove they are not Covid-positive.Fully vaccinated travellers can gather in a home with a group of up to 10, or have up to 30 people gather outside in a public park or other outdoor area, and can freely visit venues or attend events like music festivals or sports games provided you can prove you’re vaccinated.People who are unvaccinated that enter Victoria will have to follow the state’s rules for residents who aren’t jabbed, meaning non-essential retail, restaurants and cafes, events and tourist attractions will not allow you in unless you can prove you’ve had both jabs.Face masks are compulsory in all public indoor areas regardless of your vaccination status. QUEENSLANDBorder: Restricted travel | Masks: Not required | Quarantine: Two weeks for travellersQueensland is now open to holiday-makers, with the state’s government letting in travellers a little earlier than planned as Christmas approaches. Now that Queensland’s population of over-16s has reached 70 per cent fully vaccinated before November 19, travellers can come in on a strict set of rules.NSW is currently classified as a hotspot area by Sunshine State officials, meaning if you want to travel there now you will need to apply for a travel pass. You must also be fully vaccinated and only arrive via air – the border is still closed for holiday-makers arriving via car.Travellers must also have tested negative to Covid within 72 hours before arriving in Queensland and must self-quarantine at a home address for 14 days once you get there. And there’s rules for quarantine too – you can only catch one connecting flight from Brisbane once you fly into Queensland, and your quarantine address must be within two hours of the last airport you arrived at. Otherwise, you can drive in a private vehicle to your quarantine address, but no public transport or rideshare pick-ups are allowed. NED-4961-Domestic-travel-plan-for-Queenslands-bordersBut once Queensland reaches 80 per cent fully vaccinated on or before December 17, the border will fully reopen, allowing vaccinated visitors and their vehicles to drive in. Everyone coming to Queensland will need to be fully vaccinated and have tested negative to Covid within 72 hours. For unvaccinated people, the rules remain the same at 70 or 80 per cent, and will need to prove their travel is essential and complete hotel quarantine.Once 90 per cent of the Queensland population is fully vaccinated, there will be unrestricted entry into Queensland for vaccinated people, but the unvaccinated will still need to do “a period” of quarantine. While mask rules in Queensland have been scrapped at 80 per cent single dose, once you are allowed in, you’ll need to follow relevant rules such as capacity requirements in venues and using QR check-in codes. SOUTH AUSTRALIABorder: Open if you’re vaccinated | Masks: Compulsory indoors | Quarantine: For the unvaccinatedFully vaccinated travellers are finally welcome into South Australia again with the southern state throwing open its borders to NSW and Victorian tourists from November 23.If you live in an LGA which has any Covid community transmission you need to have a test 72 hours before arrival into the state and undergo a daily symptom check for 14 days via the HealthCheck SA app.Travellers from areas with a vaccination rate between 80 and 90 per cent must also take a test within 24 hours of arrival. Those from Byron Bay, which has less than 80 per cent double dose, will have to test negative within 72 hours of arrival and quarantine for seven days.Unvaccinated travellers will need an approved exemption to enter for occasions including funerals or end of life visits and will be able to home quarantine if select criteria is met.But all travellers to the state will need to complete an online border entry process – to be known as EntryCheck SA regardless of vaccination status.Tourists will have to wear masks in indoor public spaces, use QR codes and follow density requirements of one person per 2 sqm, a maximum of 30 people at home gatherings and cap of 150 people at gatherings in non-residential settings. And once unvaccinated travellers are released from quarantine, they won’t be able to go to nightclubs or other high risk venues, according to the road map.The next update to South Australian restrictions is expected at 90 per cent double dose. NORTHERN TERRITORYBorder: Closed except for essential travel | Masks: Not required | Quarantine: 14 days in government facility All of the ACT, NSW and Victoria are declared hot spots, meaning people cannot enter the NT unless they are a returning resident, have an exemption or an essential travel reason.Anyone who is allowed to enter the NT from NSW will have to undergo two weeks in the Howard Springs or Alice Springs quarantine facilities at your own expense. People from all other states can enter unless they have been to a public exposure site in the past 14 days.Premier Michael Gunner has yet to announce plans to reopen the border between the NT and NSW.WESTERN AUSTRALIABorder: Closed with limited exemptions | Quarantine: 14 days at homeNSW is still classified as a high risk zone by West Australian officials, meaning free travel is not yet on the cards.A limited selection of people travelling for strict essential reasons can only enter with approval and must self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. The list includes senior government members, military personnel, federal MPs, specialists required for work that can’t be done by a person in WA and anyone who is approved by the State Emergency Coordinator. Self-quarantine is allowed, but you may not be allowed to enter WA if you don’t have a suitable location to isolate in.You must also prove you are fully vaccinated, get tested 72 hours beforehand, wear a mask and not quarantine more than 200km away from where you arrived in WA.West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has yet to confirm a road map to free travel between WA and NSW, but has committed to setting a date once 80 per cent of WA residents are fully vaccinated.TASMANIABorder: Closed except for essential travel | Masks: In limited settings | Quarantine: 14 days of hotel quarantine NSW travellers hoping to head to Tasmania will have to wait a little longer, with our state still classified as a high risk area.Tasmania is only letting in essential travellers from NSW right now, meaning if you want to go there you will have to apply for a permit and show proof. If you are approved, you will also need to test negative to Covid within 72 before you arrive in Tasmania, and quarantine for 14 days in a government facility. But from December 15, when Tasmania is expected to reach 90 per cent double dose, the rules will change.Fully vaccinated people aged 12 and over will be able to freely travel to Tasmania without quarantine, and will only need to show a negative Covid test within 72 hours of their travel.Face masks will only be needed at airports, hospitals and aged care, while you will need to follow Tasmania’s social distancing rules of one person per two square metres and use the state’s QR check-in app while out and about. Unvaccinated travellers will still be required to apply to enter Tasmania, and if approved, quarantine and other conditions may apply.NEW ZEALANDBorder: Closed with limited exemptions| Masks: In all indoor public places| Quarantine: 14 daysKiwis have been free to travel to Australia without quarantine as of November 1, but NSW travellers aren’t welcome across the ditch just yet.The travel bubble set up between New Zealand and Australia earlier this year has yet to resume, with travellers only allowed into our closest neighbour for a short list of exemptions. And you will need to be fully vaccinated, complete a travel request form, prove you are vaccinated and test negative to Covid within 72 hours before arriving in NZ.You will also have to complete a mandatory seven-day quarantine period once you arrive. Most of New Zealand is on Alert Level 2, meaning you will have to wear a mask on public transport as well as in all retail and public venues. The NZ government last suspended travel with Australia on September 17 for a further eight weeks, with the decision set to be reviewed in mid to late November.
