Omicron school cluster grows as NSW records 325 new Covid cases

The three cases were students of a year 9 class at Regents Park Christian School and officials have so far been unable to pinpoint how they contracted the virus.It came as NSW recorded 325 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night and the death of a woman in her 50s from south western Sydney who died at Liverpool Hospital. She had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions. Thirteen total Covid infections have been linked to the Regents Park Christian School and all students and staff identified as close contacts.Genome testing is underway to determine whether the remaining 10 cases are also the Omicron variant.Daily Telegraph – News Feed latest episodeThe whole of the primary and secondary school has been dismissed for the year with the contacts told to isolate and seek testing.“NSW Health extends its appreciation to Regents Park Christian School and the wider school community for their co-operation in coming forward for testing and following the public health advice,” a NSW Health spokeswoman said in a statement.Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym at Villawood was visited by one of the infectious people and has been identified as a close contact venue between 9am and 4.30pm on November 27.Covid figuresMeanwhile two further Omicron cases have been confirmed in returned travellers who are family members of previously confirmed infections.They arrived on flight QR908 from Doha to Sydney on November 23. “These travellers have not been in southern Africa and NSW Health is concerned transmission may have occurred on this flight,” the NSW Health spokeswoman said.“NSW Health is contacting all passengers and flight crew to advise them of their isolation requirements.
